Baked Beans Bargain at the Cake Cafe

cake-cafe-logoSpeaking of beans, I followed a recommendation from Snack Box and tried out out the baked beans on toast in The Cake Cafe today.

I was there with Jacqui at 11am and the place was buzzing. Cake is a gorgeous little cafe off Camden St that somehow  manages to make you feel like you’re isolated, warm and secluded. You can sit outside under shelters in the sun or rain: either way you’ll feel as content as a child in a Babygro sitting by the fireplace.

baked beans cake cafeBaked beans are a lunchtime staple for me, so I ordered reluctantly, and then spent the next twenty minutes congratulating myself on my decision. The cafe use cannenneli beans and make a sweet and fresh tomato sauce to go with them. Dotted with little pieces of sausage, the beans are served on crispy, buttery, hot toasted bread. Marvellously filling, but I’ll never enjoy a tin of Heinz again (Still, at €6.50, they’re a lot cheaper than a single tin of cannennelli beans at Tesco!) I’m also a big fan of the cakes here, and they serve great coffee.

Our bill, including the beans, an espresso, a tea, and an orange juice came to €13.70. I know it’s not the cheapest place in the city, but you’ll never be let down here. For what you pay, I think the Cake Cafe offers great value for money, consistently delicious food and drinks, attentive and chilled out service, and just about the most naturally relaxed dining experience you’ll find in the city.
