Conor Pope taste tests Feta Cheese in Pricewatch today, with the varieties from M&S and Aldi coming in as the highest scorers. Feta is one of my favourite things, and I have Greek Salad at least once a week. By far the best feta I’ve ever had comes from Camden Halal in Camden St, where you can buy a huge block from their deli counter for about €1.30. It’ll keep for nearly a week in your fridge if you seal it in an airproof container.
Greek Salad
Boy oh boy do I love Greek salad. I usually leave out the black olives as I think the simple feta, cucumber and tomato combination works really well, but the classic version would include them.
Ingredients
- 10 cherry tomatoes, halved
- ¼ cucumber, cut into small wedges
- 1 piece feta cheese to taste (about 50g per person if you’re unsure)
- 50g pitted black olives
- Thinly sliced red onion
- Olive oil
- Black pepper
Instructions
Put the tomatoes, olives and cucumber in a bowl. Crumble over the feta cheese and toss together. Lay the red onion on top, pour over a tablespoon or two of olive oil, and grate a generous amount of black pepper on top.
This salad is also lovely on bruschetta, or stuffed into a toasted wholemeal pitta bread.
