Last week, I was all set to make this trout recipe for a pregnant friend, so I went to Sea Pearls on Richmond Street (just between Camden St. and the canal).
Sadly, it appears to have closed down. It may have been a warning that my fear of poisoning pregnant women with fish – not just shellfish – wasn’t completely irrational. Or it may have had something to do with the incredible slowness of one particular staff member, who scaled the fish with a look of disgust on his face.
Anyway, I searched all around the Camden Street area for a fishmonger. Plenty of butchers, but not a little fish in sight. I remember that there used to be a fishmonger just off Grafton Street, but they closed a few years ago.
Of course, you’ll get great fish in Howth and Dun Laoghaire, but it’s not much use unless you live nearby. In the end I gave up and made this sausage and lentil stew instead. So, besides the supermarkets – Superquinn’s fish is consistently good, Tesco’s and Dunnes’ not as much – do any of our lovely readers know where I can I find a decent fishmonger in Dublin? And can anyone recommend a good fishmongers outside the Dublin area?
