Last week, a queue of angry creditors phoned Joe Duffy to complain about unpaid bills from Dublin’s Town Bar and Grill. The popular restaurant now looks to be on the brink of closure.
There’s many more restaurants staring into the abyss, including Eden and Tante Zoe’s in Temple Bar. Of course, it’s a very hard time for the industry as a whole, and many are responding with a range of special offers and meal deals: you’ll find some of these on CheapEats Classifieds.
Over on the Irish Times’ Pricewatch blog, Conor Pope has started a Restaurant Death Watch. It’s not as grim as it sounds: Pope is asking commenters to compile a list of the best value restaurants in Ireland that they want to see survive, come what may. So pop on over to Pricewatch and add your two cents worth.
Meanwhile, in today’s Pricewatch column, Conor Pope checks out value for money on salad spinners. It’s on my very long list of things to buy; I’ve lost count of the amount of times a bowl of salad has ended in a miserable little puddle because I didn’t dry it properly. Unsuprisingly, Lidl comes out cheapest.
