My pal Audrey got in touch looking for recommendations for a very specific day out. She’s organising a memorial service for a relative, which will involve scattering ashes on the Dublin Mountains. There’ll be a big family there for this lovely occasion (20-30 people, including children), and she needs to find a nice venue to take them all for food afterwards.
Where would you recommend in the Dublin Mountains / Wicklow area? Don’t say Johnnie Fox’s.
A few that friends suggested include:
- Avoca
- The Dropping Well in Milltown.
- The Willow Grove Pub in Delgany
- The Glenview Hotel in Glen of the Downs
Any other suggestions, oh helpful readers?

The Box tree in stepaside is lovely.. It also has a separate area you can hire for the afternoon
Had food in the Step Inn before, which was quite nice, but no idea if/how well they cater for groups.
Some tips from Twitter – a second recommendation for the Box Tree, and one for the Wild Boar in Stepaside.
The Roundwood Inn? Various places in Enniskerry village?
Hi Jean, The boxtree and the wild boar are basically the same place. Ones the pub and ones the restaurant.
The wine room is the area you can book for a large party…
at this point I should point out I have nothing to do with the boxtree, I just live in stepaside
Lynam’s bar restaurant and hotel in Laragh just before Glen da Lough, always serve good food and plenty of space for children and of course accommodation if required.
The wicklow heather in laragh is a beautiful restaurant was there lay year and food was fabulous.
