Review: Miller’s Pizza Kitchen

millersI popped into Miller’s Pizza Kitchen last week with a friend for a spot of lunch. He’s been unemployed for a while now so we were looking for somewhere cheap, filling, and good.

I’ve had take-away pizzas from this place before. Depending on your perspective, the pizzas are either vile or inspired, with Mexican Salsa pizza (marinated roast vegetables with chillis and jalapenos, mozzarella and red cheddar, garnished with deep fried corn tortilla, coriander salsa, creme fraiche, guacamole and finished with coriander) and Roast Garlic Seafood Pizza taking pride of place on the menu. I’ve always find them refreshingly unique.

There’s some creative toppings such as Greek Halloumi and Artichoke (which I thoroughly enjoyed a while back), Spinach Ricotta, and Black Tiger Prawn, alongside more familiar items such as the Hawaiian and the Vegetable pizza. The menu also includes some random Asian, Caribbean, and Italian dishes. I’m always wary of this kind of mix so I’ve tended to avoid these latter options, but I’d be interested to hear from readers who’ve tried them.

We both opted for the Monday-Wednesday lunch special: a nine-inch Margarita Pizza with a choice of two toppings for €9.95. I went for olives and anchovies, which nature itself has deemed designed to be a pizza topping, while my friend had sun-dried tomatoes and pepperoni on his. Both pizzas were really enjoyable and very filling, with great dough and quality toppings; the anchovies tasted like the sea. I hate hate hate cheap toppings, so was happy with this meal. But with times so tight, it would be good to see Miller’s extend the lunch menu for the full week.
