The Herald recently reported that Gary Rhodes’ restaurant Rhodes D7, on Dublin’s Capel St, has gone mysteriously quiet. The restaurant closed for renovations two months ago and was due to open again on March 17, but the reports say that it remains shut and that little visible work has been carried out on the building.
I ate in Rhodes D7 only once, and while the food was good it wasn’t particularly memorable and the place lacked atmosphere. It’s an extremely large space, with 250 seats: it’s hard to imagine how it could stay busy throughout these tough times. Let’s hope it gets sorted out, especially for the sake of the staff, who the Herald claims are still waiting to hear a final decision on the fate of the restaurant.
