Weekly Roundup

Weekly RoundupIt’s been a monumental week for the Irish grocery sector, with Tesco’s controversial move to cut prices and remove Irish brands from some of their stores. The issue has generated heated debate, not least here on CheapEats.

We also debated the rights and wrongs of instant coffee and reviewed two restaurants in Cork. Diner’s (Dalkey) Miller’s Pizza Kitchen (Baggot St) and Sweet Basil Thai (Rathmines) all got the thumbs up as good cheap eats in Dublin. BBQ season kicked off with this burger recipe, while our friend Paula whipped up some seasonal nettle soup.

We’re also very excited about the launch of our new CheapEats Classifieds service, where readers can find a selection of the best bargains and special offers in restaurants and hotels around Ireland. The service is free to restaurants, hotels, and takeaways for the next two weeks, so if you work in the industry, send us in your ad! The sooner you send in your ad, the more free publicity you’ll get for your business.

Next week, we’ll have a giveaway to promote the launch of CheapEats Classifieds: two of our readers will win a great prize courtesy of Marks and Spencer, while one lucky restaurant or hotel will win another great prize. Have a great weekend!
